Do you have a reason to get out of bed in the morning? I’d ask you to think about this question carefully.Maybe you have a loving partner to greet you, or you need to attend to the needs of your children, an ageing relative? Somebody needs you right? Or maybe you just get out of bed because you have to carry on with living because that’s what people do, isn’t it?
There is pleasure in small things. The glint of sun on dark days, a child laughing in the park, the wagging tail of a happy dog. These are the things that make me get up in the morning.
Seeing new places and things is nice too and in Latvia I enjoyed seeing some new things, tasting new food. The city of Riga is pretty – there are some parts that date back to medieval times, particularly a set of three houses called the three brothers, dating from 1646. The best part of Riga for me was tasting the local cuisine. Pickled herring and cottage cheese, cabbage and barley, potato sausages. Different from the food in my own country, but tasty and wholesome.
Anyway, here are some photos of the trip to Riga.
Maybe I get out of bed in the morning because I am dying for a wee…or maybe because bits of me start to go stiff and ache after too long in bed (my back and legs mainly)…or maybe I just have to get up and go to work in the morning. Most mornings bring little joy, but being up and out there is the only way to find any joy there is.
Good to see you writing again, and good to read about your continuing wanderlust.
